In 1987, I placed my name on the ballot for The Office of Clerk-Treasurer
of Tell City and asked for your support, your confidence and your trust.
In the November election of that year, YOU, the citizens of our community,
delivered on all three and elected me to serve in that capacity. It has
been my pleasure to serve as the Chief Financial Officer for the past 19
years. I have been both honored and humbled by your support in past elections.
Today, I am here to ask for that same support, that same confidence, and
that same trust as I am very pleased to announce my candidacy for Mayor of
Tell City on the Democrat ticket.
WHAT DOES A BARBARA EWING FOR MAYOR CANDIDACY BRING TO THE CITIZENS OF TELL CITY?
I bring to you, the voters, a candidate for Mayor who is a proven leader.
Throughout my 19 years as Clerk-Treasurer, I, along with my staff, have operated
the Office with the utmost dignity and respect while providing effective
leadership of city government. My office has always operated with an Open
Door Policy, listening and assisting many tax payers while utilizing
these leadership skills to make decisions and solve issues. I have also
expanded my leadership role through the Indiana League of Municipal Clerks
and Treasurers where I currently serve on the state executive Board of
Directors. I have also completed my accreditation as an Indiana Accredited
Municipal Clerk in an effort to provide to the citizens of Tell City the
highest level of professional leadership.
Those leadership abilities are further exemplified through volunteering and working, with many of you in various civic organizations
SECONDLY,
I bring to you, the voters, a candidate for Mayor who has valuable experience
in municipal government and sound fiscal management. With twenty plus
years experience in municipal government, I understand the day to day operations
of our City. As Chief Financial Officer for Tell City, I have a thorough
understanding of the nuts and bolts of city budgeting.
With property tax restructuring in Indiana, it is vital that Tell City
voters elect a Mayor who understands municipal budgeting and can lead this
city. In the day to day operations of the Clerk-Treasurer's Office, it
has been my philosophy to explore how we do more with less,
to be as efficient and responsible with your taxes as possible. It is that
same philosophy which I will bring to the Office of Mayor. With changes
in property tax revenues, it will be necessary to be able to maintain a
level of city services that you as citizens not only want but deserve!
THIRDLY,
I bring to you, the voters a candidate for Mayor with VISION.
The vision to see a community where Tell City residents can Feel
the Pride through the quality of life Tell City has to offer!! A
vision that also includes population growth, growth which is vital to the
future of Tell City. Population growth will lead to an increase in budget
revenues and the city's net assessed evaluation. In turn, an increase in
the city's net assessed evaluation can often result in a reduction in property
tax rates.
However, while a positive vision of Tell City's future is important, it is vital for the City not to lose focus on the need for a strong infrastructure
In closing, I Barbara Ewing bring to you the voters a candidate for Mayor who is a proven community leader, a candidate for Mayor who has extensive municipal experience and sound fiscal management, and a candidate for Mayor with a positive vision and the Passion to listen to my fellow citizens and make informed and intelligent decisions for the betterment of our community.
I invite all of you to join with me in the upcoming months, which lead us to the November election, as we work together for the betterment of YOUR COMMUNITY.. MY COMMUNITY.. OUR COMMUNITY.. TELL CITY!
Thank you.
